Sewer Lateral Systems And How To Choose Them
There are so many homes that were built around the 1950’s, and most of them still have the original sewer lateral systems installed in them. These pipes are very old and most of them were made out of clay, and this means that over these many years they could have cracked and may have had the joints seperated. Often times they have even shifted out of place, therefore, there could be many infestations and tree roots that have taken over these pipes. Even if a home was built a few years after this time period, the same type of issue could arise in them. There are many pipes that can and will deteriorate over a number of years, which causes for sewer lateral leaks that seep into the ground around them, and this causes a health hazard. Sewer systems in general are in need of continuous repair, there are so many factors that can arise that will cause these systems not to function properly. As we are all aware, we need these sewer systems to work and function properly to prevent us from being exposed to any type of hazards to our health. There are many pipes within our homes that help keep the flow at a proper rate. Some of the drains do not even have water passing through them, instead they have air flow passing through to keep all of these pipes properly vented for the sewer lateral pipes to work properly. All of the drains, in your home, should be connected to a type of network system that vents out through the room of your home. Having this venting line allows for the sewer gases to pass up and out of the home, instead of entering your home for you to breathe in. Most of the plumbing fixtures in your home have what they call a “trap” that keeps a small amount of water that forms a very air tight seal to keep the gases inside. Every single drain, in your home, meet below your house to a main drain. This main drain leads out and to the sewer lines or septic systems, and the wastewater is then carried to these areas. Choosing a sewer lateral system takes some work. You will need to find out how big your system is before beginning to install. The only way to get the job effectively and sufficiently, is to figure out how many feet your lateral system is, and you will also need to do research on what the requirements for your area are. There can be different laws or ordinances that you may need to follow, depending on your location or state that you are living within. Following the laws and rules of your area is important because you do not want to do something illegal. Therefore, the best thing to do is find out the ordinances and the amount of piping that is needing. In conclusion, when it comes to the sewer lateral systems, it is not something that should be taken lightly. These drains need to be draining properly, following the law, and done in such a manner that you are not causing a serious health hazard or health risk. It is important to make sure that your system is functioning the way that it needs to, and to maintain it properly on your end with you living in your home and using these drains for your waste.
